About the Position: This position is located at Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington. the incumbent will carry out the full range of technical support functions in the pharmacy.

Duties
The incumbent will serve as a dispensing pharmacy technician
Receive and review prescriptions for the full range of pharmaceuticals to include controlled drugs on the formulary.
Determine type of substance, strength, dosage, and quantity of medication prescription to be dispensed.
Package and label products and ensure proper handling, storage, and accountability.
Coordinate with prescriber or pharmacist to clarify issues or problems with dosing, interactions, or instructions.
Enter prescriptions into outpatient computer system reviewing profile for allergies, drug/drug or drug/food interactions.
Provide instruction (s) to patients on proper use of medications.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation (NACI) (TIER 1).
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- This position is covered by Health Affairs Policy 97006, 23 Oct 96 the position requires the employee to obtain Hepatitis B immunizations and Tuberculin testing unless exempt by physician.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds is required.
- This position requires a Pre-Appointment Physical.
- Employee will be required to wear and use personal protective equipment as required and provided by the employer.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing technical support work in a pharmacy under the
supervision of a registered pharmacist that involve the performance of a variety of technical support functions in the following: filling prescriptions, distributing pharmaceuticals, and utilizing pharmacy based computer systems gained in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, or in pharmaceutical firms or laboratories.

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Pharmacology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
