Duties

Joining the Department of Homeland Security's Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to assist in planning, directing, coordinating and supervising a staff charged with responsibility for providing and obtaining a full range of mission support services. This position starts at a salary of $101,121.00 (GS-12, Step 1) to $131,452.00 (GS-12, Step 10). Typical duties include: Planning, directing, coordinating and supervising a staff charged with responsibility for providing and obtaining a full range of mission support services. Supervising a group of administrative employees who are responsible for assessing the productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency of program operations. Resolving problems involving interpretation of the law and of Department policy. Assigning and explaining work requirements to subordinate staff while establishing production standards and preparing performance work plans and appraisals

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Providing administrative services such as management analysis, personnel management, financial management, office services and systems support. Identifying ways to improve or enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of current services at the local level and provide representation for the office in dealings with vendors and organizations within the agency. Providing technical and administrative support and supervision and assisting in developing and carrying out plans regarding staffing and training. Analyzing current practices to ensure the efficiency and effective productivity of the administrative operations. Assisting in resolving problems involving interpretation of the law or unusual situations requiring interpretation and application of DHS policy NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 11/14/2024. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
