This position is part of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, Government Publishing Office in Washington,
District of Columbia.
Duties
Provides clerical; technical guidance and direct service support to employees, timekeepers, Payroll Manager, the Human Capital Office (HC), NFC, and agency management regarding pay concerns frequently.
Analyzes computer generated printouts for rejects and missing hours to correct errors online by specified deadlines.
Provides requests for replacement checks, special pay, non-issuance of check and replacement of lost leave and earnings statements to the civilian payroll office.
Researches and computes pay and submits memorandum to the Payroll Office for payment.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is Required.
- Selectee must successfully pass pre-employment requirements prior to appointment.
- Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period.
- Males born after 12/03/59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain Non-Sensitive Low-Risk no security clearance is required
- TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. Applicants must have served 1 year at the next lower grade level or equivalent grade level of federal service to qualify.
Qualifications
To qualify for the Payroll Technician, PG -0544-7/8, you must meet the following requirements:

Specialized Experience for Grade level PG-0544- 07:
Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the PG-0544-06.
level in federal service or equivalent. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: (1) Experiences with automated Payroll system.; (2) Assists with processing a variety of actions for employees covered under different pay plans.; and (3) Reviews and selects pay methods and procedures for pay and leave actions.
Specialized Experience for Grade level PG-0544- 08 level:
Appilcants must possess one year of specialized experience at the PG-07 or equivalent grade level or higher. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: (1) Utilizes financial management regulations and policies related to payroll functions and automated Payroll system; (2) Process a variety of actions for employees covered under different pay plans; (3) Reviews and selects methods and procedures for pay and leave actions. (4) Utilizes National Finance Center(NFC) applications such as: (Epicweb, SPPSweb, empower HR, NFC Mainframe, Insight, or Reporting Center).
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
