This position is part of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, Government Publishing Office in Washington,
District of Columbia.
Duties
Utilizing knowledge of financial management regulations, practices, procedures, and policies related specifically to civilian payroll functions, and utilizing knowledge of the automated Payroll system.
Conducting research or investigate problems or errors that require reconciling incomplete information and conducting extensive searches.
Verifying the accuracy of the authorizing documents, determine the amount and extent of overpayment or underpayment, as appropriate.
Using appropriate codes, forms and coding procedures used with each action and determine when to input data into the computer system.
Planning and organizing work, estimating resources required, and coordinating funding with the offices being serviced.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is Required.
- Selectee must successfully pass pre-employment requirements prior to appointment.
- Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period.
- Males born after 12/03/59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Selectee must undergo a background investigation for a Non-Sensitive Low Risk security clearance.
- TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. Applicants must have served 1 year at the next lower grade level or equivalent grade level of federal service to qualify.
Qualifications
To qualify for the Civilian Pay Technician PG-07, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the PG-06 grade level in the Federal Service that include but are not limited to:
Utilizing knowledge of automated Payroll system.
Assisting management for processing of a variety of actions for Agency employees covered under different plans and situations.
Reviewing and selecting the appropriate pay methods and procedures which ensure accurate pay and leave actions are performed.
To qualify for the Civilian Pay Technician PG-08, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the PG-07 grade level in the Federal Service that include but are not limited to:
Utilizing Knowledge of financial management regulations, practices, procedures, and policies related specifically to civilian payroll functions, and automated Payroll system.
Processing of a variety of actions for Agency employees covered under different plans and situations.
Selecting the appropriate methods and procedures which ensure accurate pay and leave actions are performed.
Working quickly solving highly complicated problems in meeting deadlines.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
