Duties

Responsible for developing/conducting the training program for the Fire Department which includes the training of firefighting personnel in a full range of fire protection and prevention techniques. Develops, writes and updates the training program for the Installation Fire Department. Instructs fire department personnel in all phases of fire protection and prevention techniques and practices and gives tests as required to determine the level of knowledge possessed by the personnel and the amount of training needed.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis; 60 -hour rotating shifts with a work schedule of 120 hours per pay period.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires successful completion of an annual Job Performance Test.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime
  • This position requires mandatory recall.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: implementing or providing training in fire protection and prevention for an organization; participating in overseeing training drills and exercises concerning firefighting rescue functions; providing technical advisory services to management on all matters pertaining to fire protection and prevention and assisting in executing inspection and training duties to ensure the organization meets the training requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain all of the following Department of Defense, or IFSAC, Pro-Board, certifications: FIREFIGHTER I, FIREFIGHTER II, DRIVER PUMPER OPERATOR, DRIVER AERIAL OPERATOR, DRIVER ARFF OPERATOR, FIRE OFFICER II, FIRE INSPECTOR I, FIRE INSTRUCTOR II, AND HAZMAT INCIDENT COMMANDER. (YOU MUST INCLUDE COPIES OF ALL CERTIFICATIONS WITH YOUR APPLICATION PACKAGE FOR VERIFICATION PURPOSES.) MAXIMUM ENTRY AGE: Employees hired for the first time ("originally hired") into GS-0081 positions must not exceed the established Maximum Entry Age (MEA) at the time of appointment. The MEA for Firefighters (FFs) is 37. An employee originally hired into a covered FF position must be hired by the last day of the month he/she reaches 37 unless a waiver from Department of Army is approved prior to appointment. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Fire SuppressionFire/Life Safety Training, Public Education, and OutreachTeaching Others Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).
