About the Position: This Health Technician (Specimen Processing) position is located in the Department of Pathology at Evans Army Community Hospital in Fort Carson, CO.

Duties
Performs phlebotomy procedures such as venipuncture and puncture; determine type of specimen to be collected; and draw and/or collect blood samples for test procedures.
Process specimens in accordance with the test procedure requirements.
Greets and screesn patients at the Laboratory Reception Desk, obtaining information to determine need, eligibility of care and priority for testing.
Prepares samples for shipment by centrifuging sample and separating serum.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a Childcare National Agency Check with Inquiries (CNACI) background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements as its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of 18 on a recurring basis.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This is an Inclement Weather Essential position, you must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
- This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position is a Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrated experience performing blood collection on patients; Performing receptionist/administrative duties such as receiving patients and/or phone calls; Maintaining patients' files OR utilizing office and/or clinical automation systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education Substitution: Successfully completed a four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. (Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts)

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts)
License/Certification: Phlebotomy certification preferred but not required
