About the Position: This position is located at Evans Army Community Hospital, Department of Emergency Medicine, Ambulance Section, Fort Carson, CO. Provides emergency services to all of Fort Carson.
Duties
Performs routine operator safety checks and thorough emergency vehicle maintenance inspections of the vehicle and inventories all supplies and equipment.
Responds to on-site accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses.
Conducts a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of his condition and searches for medical alert symbols.
Makes modifications to the protocol, if necessary, within prescribed limits.
Prioritizes treatments for patient having multiple problems and employs a variety of established emergency medicine techniques, methods and equipment to the appropriate medical facility.
Documents procedures or treatments rendered.
Reports in clear, concise manner what injuries were identified.
Requirements
- Work is subject to rotating shifts and/or irregular tour of duty to include weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
- This position requires a State Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) or National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification at the time of application.
- This position requires National Registry Paramedic certification (NREMT-P) within one year of being hired.
- This position requires the selectee to pass a pre-employment physical.
- This position requires certification in BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS) at the time of application.
- This position requires certification in ADVANCED CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT (ACLS).
- This position requires certification in PEDIATRIC ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT (PALS).
- This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug testing during employment.
- This position requires the incumbent to work overtime, as necessary.
- Incumbent may need to perform duties from high elevations, confined spaces, marine, toxic, and other dangerous environments.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement.
- This is an Inclement Weather Essential position.
- Work may involve exposure to harmful chemicals and/or contagious/communicable diseases that could be fatal or cause serious illness. Little protection can be afforded prior to the disease diagnosis.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 125 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact.

Experience required
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.
Licensure/Certification: This position requires a paramedic certification (EMT-P).
Specialized experience is defined as: experience in responding to onsite accidents or emergencies involving injuries and/or illnesses; obtaining patient vital signs and performing venipuncture and initiating intravenous (IV) therapy; experience using various types of medical emergency equipment such as EKG, telemetry/defibrillator, and suction; experience determining the basic causes and medical implications of closed and open soft tissue wounds, and stabilizing patients as established by protocols. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:
Education Substitution: Successful completion of one year of graduate level education that is directly related to the work of the position (Note: You must include transcripts with your application).

Combination of Education and Experience: If you have some but not all of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you do have. To do so, compute the percentage of your requirements met, the sum of which must equal at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12.
