You will serve as a ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN in the TRANSIENT AIRCRAFT SERVICE BRANCH of MARINE CORPS AIR STATION, NEW RIVER.

Duties

You will complete ground inspections in accordance with published standards, instructions, orders and regulations. You will inform work center supervisor about changes in equipment conditions, problems, needs and progress of assigned tasks. You will diagnose and determine repairs of Air Traffic Control electronic navigation and inter-facility communications systems. You will perform test and analysis methods during repair and overhaul processes of electronic navigation and inter-facility communications systems. You will develop comprehensive preventive and corrective maintenance procedures, technical documentation, and installation drawings for systems not covered by policies. You will ensure all planned maintenance materials, tools and publications are properly forecast for assigned maintenance schedule. You will present technical briefings to branch or sponsor personnel to provide electronic navigation and inter-facility communications systems or equipment status. You will conduct formal, informal, and On-the-Job training (OJT) for electronics maintenance personnel.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to submit to a background investigation.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an airfield driver's license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You must have normal color vision for this position.
  • You will be required to complete Level I and Level II Watch Level qualification within 12 months of hiring and complete Level III qualification in all required equipment within 12 months thereafter.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification within 90 days.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You may be required to work rotating shifts and subject to recall of duty.

Qualifications

GS-11: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-10) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector maintaining critical Naval Air Traffic Control, Air Navigational Aids and Landing systems (NAALS), communication, meteorological, and airport electronic systems by installing, testing, and modifying electronic equipment and systems to meet Command requirements, developing corrective action procedures and ensuring all required tools are available for forecasted maintenance. GS-09: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-08) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector maintaining critical Naval Air Traffic Control, Air Navigational Aids and Landing systems (NAALS), communication, meteorological, and airport electronic systems by assisting with installing, testing, and modifying electronic equipment and systems to meet Command requirements. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves frequent exposure to dangerous situations unique to communications facilities and navigational aids operating in an active airfield environment with time constraints, outdoors, and during inclement weather. Often works atop vans, steel platforms, tall ladders, scaffolding (up to 140 ft) with frequent exposure to high voltage (up to 30,000 volts) and radio frequency transmission sources (up to 80,000 watts). Work requires a range of safety and other precautions where conditions cannot be controlled.
