This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing, within the Research Analysis Division. As a Physical Scientist (Senior R&D Analyst), you will be a technical subject matter expert in one or more fields supporting banknote production and or technology (e.g., chemical, and physical analysis of materials such as inks, optically variable materials/features, substrates, and printing testing).

Duties

As a Physical Scientist (Senior R&D Analyst), you will: - Work with Division Manager, Analysts, Project Managers, external stakeholders, and team members from different areas of expertise to determine appropriate work and test procedures for materials used in currency such as inks, papers, and special substrates. - Plan and perform investigations to develop new methods and means of validating findings. Isolates unknown and novel conditions to develop methods and assessment techniques. - Determine data required and personally, or in concert with data review and analysis personnel, determine the accuracy required to permit meaningful statistical interpretation of test results and what degradation may result from poor data. - Serve as a Designated Laboratory Representative and custodian of laboratory equipment. - Ensure teamwork products meet the goals of the organization.

Specialized Experience for the GS-13: Specialized experience is one year of experience at the GS-12 level or equivalent that is directly related to the position as listed in this announcement and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position includes: - Experience working as a member of a team in pursuit of program and project objectives; AND - Experience in working projects related to technologies developed from concept to integration; AND - Experience in following comprehensive test plans, subsequent analysis and interpretation of results; AND - Experience evaluating, presenting information in a concise, articulate, persuasive, and knowledgeable fashion in both written and oral form, to technical and non-technical audiences. Specialized Experience for the GS-12: Specialized experience is one year of experience at the GS-11 level or equivalent that is directly related to the position as listed in this announcement and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position includes: - Experience working as a member of a team in pursuit of program and project objectives; AND - Experience in working in projects related to technologies developed from concept to integration; AND - Experience in following comprehensive test plans, and subsequent analysis and interpretation of results. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-13, you must have been at the GS-12level for 52 weeks. Education

Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Individual Occupational Requirements for General Physical Science Series, 1301

A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
