You will serve as an ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY, HEALTH ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD at the DETACHMENT at the POINT LOMA COMPLEX in SAN DIEGO, CA.
Duties
You will be the Detachment’s primary environmental representative with California and federal agencies for regulatory inspections.
You will develop, implement, and manage the detachment’s Environmental program.
You will conduct ESH inspections and surveys to identify and coordinate resolution of ESH deficiencies.
You will prepare reports that contain finding, risk assessments, recommended corrective actions, and abatement dates.
You will provide technical expertise and program planning for highly complex environmental management programs to all Detachment activities within the San Diego area.
Requirements

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience working with Federal, California and San Diego Environmental laws, regulations, DoD/Naval instructions, and reporting requirements in order to provide accurate technical guidance.
Experience with OSHE (Occupational, Safety, Health, and Environmental) program principles, concepts, practices, methods, and techniques to serve as a technical authority, and apply new developments to major OSHE (Occupational, Safety, Health, and Environmental) programs, emergency response issues, air pollution issues, water pollution issues not susceptible to resolution by standard methods.
Experience identifying and/or correcting Environmental issues encountered, whether new, unusual, or routine.
Experience partnering with agencies and other non-Navy activities and ability to develop and maintain high performing teams.
