You will serve as an ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the OCCUPATIONAL, SAFETY, HEALTH, AND ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will develop, implement, and manage the detachment's regional Environmental program. You will provide technical expertise and program planning for highly complex environmental management programs to all detachment activities within the San Diego area. You will review facility environmental plans and develop guidance on proper environmental management. You will evaluate procedures and equipment to minimize environmental impacts through process modifications and equipment matching to provide pollution prevention through source reduction.

  • Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Experience working with Federal, California and San Diego Environmental laws, regulations, DoD/Naval instructions, and reporting requirements in order to provide accurate technical guidance; 2) Experience executing Environmental program principles, concepts, practices, methods and techniques while serving as a technical authority; 3) Experience developing motivation methods to foster employee awareness of sound Environmental procedures; 4) Experience applying a wide variety of EPA, CalEPA, Navy, and DOD standards, procedures, and techniques applicable to construction and detachment projects; 5) Experience assessing the impact of an installation's activities on public safety and the environment; 6) Experience identifying and/or correcting all Environmental issues encountered, whether new, unusual, or routine.
