About the Position: A member of the cardiovascular laboratory team which performs diagnostic, interventional, device based therapeutic procedures.
Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is not required but desired.

Work Schedule: Shiftwork, Nights, Weekends, Overtime, and On-Call.
Duties
Review and record patient history and supporting clinical data prior to each procedure.
Simultaneously analyze and control highly specialized electrophysiologic, angiographic and hemodynamic monitors with interactive, complex programs.
Monitor hemodynamic values, waveforms, pressure gradients and electrocardiogram tracings; immediately differentiates normal from abnormal and informs team of changes in patient status.
Participate with physician in planning procedures and initiates preparation for procedure.
Prepare a sterile field, maintains aseptic technique, and can assist the cardiologist at his request during a catheterization procedure.
Record anatomical, physiological, and/or pathological data for further diagnosis.
Connect and verify functionality of physiologic monitoring equipment such as ECG, blood pressure, pulse oxygenation, capnography, and arterial and/or venous pressure transducer.
Ensure proper function and data collection of all monitoring equipment and software during procedure
Provide detailed patient education regarding pre, intra, and post procedural requirements, expectations and potential complications.
Connect external imaging systems such as cardiac ultrasound, cardiac device programmers, IVUS, OCT, ICE and other imaging sources into catheterization lab suite display systems.

- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
- This position has been identified as IAW AR 600-85 under the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. The incumbent is required to undergo urinalysis testing at the discretion of the commander or supervisor.

- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.

Basic Requirement for Adult Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist:
Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in adult cardiovascular processes within a Catheterization Lab such as working with ballon pumps, angiocath wires, cardiac balloons and/or stents; analyzing hemodynamic pressures, monitoring systems and/or cardiovascular picture archival communication systems (PACS); and/or operating single plane fluoroscopic systems.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
