The incumbent serves as the Materials Handler at the NIH Clinical Center's offsite warehouse location. The materials that the incumbent's staff handles are predominantly medical and surgical supplies. Some of these supplies require specialized storage such as temperature and humidity sensitive storage.
Duties
Overseeing an assigned segment of the warehouse.
On own initiative, consolidates materials and provides maximum space utilization and protection of materials for assigned segment.
Operating large material handling equipment (MHE) items including cargo trucks, motorized pallet jacks, order pickers, and forklifts.
Responsible for incoming and outcoming shipments and placement of materials with the docking area in accordance with priorities, scheduling requirements and space allocations.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.
- Employment is subject to the successful completion of the pre-appointment process (i.e., background investigation, verification of qualifications and job requirements, completion of onboarding forms, submission of required documents, etc.)
- The incumbent is often required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. The incumbent may lift and carry items that weigh up to 40 pounds.
- Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.
- Applicants must meet all qualifications requirements within thirty (30) calendar days of the closing date of this announcement, including time in grade.
- The work is done inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted.
- Work may require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons.
- The incumbent is regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapers, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas.
- This position is designated as a Tier I "Emergency " position.
- If selected, you must pass a pre-employment medical examination, provide evidence of immunization, and be free from communicable diseases.
