The incumbent serves as the Materials Handler Supervisor at the NIH Clinical Center's offsite warehouse location with responsibility for a work unit within the section. The materials that the incumbent's staff handles are predominantly medical and surgical supplies. Some of these supplies require specialized storage such as temperature and humidity sensitive storage.

Duties

Serving as the Materials Handler Supervisor at the NIH Clinical Center's offsite warehouse location with responsibility for a work unit within the section. Supervising the staff and ensures each staff member is responsible for overseeing an assigned segment of the warehouse. The supervisor is also responsible for developing the plans for the storage and arrangement of stock in accordance with agency regulations which determine configuration setup, movement, rearrangement and traffic flow. For the assigned segment, the employee is responsible for incoming and outcoming shipments and placement of materials with the docking area in accordance with priorities, scheduling requirements and space allocations. Maintaining and arranging storage areas in accordance with warehouse plans and safety procedures and recommend the sequence of warehouse functions for the assigned area such as the order of receiving, shipping and issuing based on general guidelines and knowledge of material movement priorities and procedures.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

  • The incumbent is often required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions.
  • The incumbent may lift and carry items that weigh up to 40 pounds. The heavier items are moved with weight material handling equipment (MHE) or with assistance from other workers.
  • The work is done inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted.
  • The incumbent is regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas.
  • Work may require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons.
  • This position has been designated as a "Tier I Employee" position.
  • If selected, you are required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
