You will serve as a You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Safety Division of in the SAFETY DIVISION of NB SAN DIEGO.
Duties
You will advise managers on the best methods for implementing new approaches to deal with existing safety problems.
You will assess operational capabilities (e.g., manpower, facilities, location of facilities, frequency of inspections) to anticipate, mitigate, or resolve programmatic shortcomings.
You will prepare investigative reports to identify trends and develop programs that reduce mishaps.
You will communicate directives, instructions, and guidelines for implementation of safety standards, policies, requirements and procedures.
You will enforce safety and occupational health standards according to federal Occupational and Safety Health (OSHA), Department of Defense (DoD), and other installation policy and directives.
Requirements

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Developing local standards, guidelines, standard operating procedures and instructions to identify and eliminate or control safety hazards; 2) Analyzing mishap data (maintenance shops, maritime work, military training) to determine origin and develop techniques to prevent or reduce the possibility of mishaps; 3) Analyzing construction standards, practices and techniques, materials, equipment and utilities systems to determine compliance with building safety standards and to develop effective control of work and equipment hazards. GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing duties such as: 1) Inspecting the work environment and identifying hazardous operational condition; 2) Investigating accidents and identifying the cause; 3) Preparing reports of inspection findings and accident investigations (e.g. witness statements, description of property damage, extent of injuries and contributing elements of mishaps and hazardous conditions occurring in the work environment). GS-11: I have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology OR
I have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology OR
I have successfully completed an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled.
