You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT of LCS SQUADRON 1, SAN DIEGO.

Duties

You will assess the effectiveness of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Safety and Occupational Health Program for LCS Crews, Mission Package Detachments and staff. You will resolve critical safety and occupational health problems in the high-risk training and operating environment involving serious hazards of unpredictable consequences to staff, training team, and crew members. You will perform inspections and evaluations on programs such as high-risk activity programs, supervisory safety training, and emergency/disaster preparedness to determine compliance with appropriate occupational safety and health regulations. You will conduct safety and occupational health surveys of facilities and equipment related to the full range of work operations. You will evaluate a variety of complex, unconventional safety and occupational health problems or circumstances such as shipboard equipment and squadron office safety and ensure correct safety and protective equipment is available and in use. You will develop, oversee, compile, and analyze mishap data, identify trends, provide managers with mishap/trend analysis data, and assist them in developing programs to reduce mishaps. You will maintain current accident statistical data, computations, and analysis, using automation where possible. You will randomly spot check industrial sites and notify the responsible officer when safety violations or practices are observed

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • This position requires the ability to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 50 pounds in weight.
  • This position requires the ability to work onboard ships.
  • This position requires the ability to climb ladders and scaffolding
  • This position requires the ability to work in small and/or confined spaces.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector planning and conducting investigations for a safety and occupational health program and evaluating current safety procedures in order to develop recommendations that aim to eliminate accidents, mishaps, and potential hazards.
