About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security - Airfield Division, Fort Campbell, KY. Fort Campbell lies on the Kentucky/Tennessee border between Hopkinsville, KY & Clarksville, TN about 45 miles NW of Nashville.

Duties

Initiate the crash rescue alert net in the event notification of a crash is received either by radio or telephonically. Post and maintain flight publications used for flight planning purposes to ensure that such publications are current. Use automated systems to originate, transmit, file and maintain Notices to Air Mission (NOTAMS) with respect to the operation of the facility. Conduct briefings to communicate information required by aviators, including status of navigational aids, weather alerts and advisories, airfield/runway closures, construction hazards, closed areas, etc. Provide pilot-to-dispatch advisory service through UHF, and VHF radios. Evaluate existing and forecast weather conditions that could damage aircraft or threaten aircraft operations and/or airfield infrastructure. Transmit all Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) flights via Aeronautical Information System Replacement (AISR) computer or a similar system to appropriate Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC). Inspect airfield daily, or more often as required, to ensure a safe airfield environment. Assist in the research and evaluation of airfield data in reference to facilities, construction plans, policies, and aviation operations for inconsistencies and potential airfield impacts.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • This position is designated as an Inclement Weather Essential position.
  • This position requires a Pre-employment physical.
  • This position requires irregular hours of work, and rotating shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays with high periods of stress. Subject to changes in shift assignments following regulated notice periods.
  • The incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Flight-line Driver's License per AR 95-2.
  • This position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position is designated as a Mission Essential position.
  • This is a drug testing designated position

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Successful completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, OR two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: CommunicationsOral CommunicationPlanning and Evaluating Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07). Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade, time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. NOTE: To support the Advancement requirement you MUST submit a copy of your latest non-award SF-50/NPA that reflects your highest grade held on a permanent basis along with your application/resume package. You must meet the one year time-in-grade requirement so you will need to provide an SF-50 which clearly demonstrates you meet the time-in-grade requirements. Failure to do so may affect your rating or consideration for employment.
