About the Position: Incumbent provides emergency response dispatching of police, fire and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment. Maintains an accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to assure prompt and accurate response.

Duties

Responsible for the receipt and effective evaluation of 911 emergency calls; prioritizing all incoming emergency and non-emergency calls; identification of and level of response necessary for responding units. Provides emergency medical dispatching (EMD) assistance to callers with medical emergencies using the local authority emergency medical dispatch system. Monitors status and availability of police, fire and medical units to assure an appropriate response is made. Updates information for police, medical, and fire personnel enroute to call. Maintain reports and retrieves needed statistical information using fire incident reporting system(s).

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position is subject to shift work. Incumbent is required to work an alternate work schedule, requiring an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends and holidays) and must wear a uniform.
  • Employee is required to work (mission essential) regardless of weather conditions, Terrorist Force Protection Condition (TFPCON) or installation closure and to report to duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
  • Designated Key Position - Position is designated as a "Key Position" in accordance with AR 690-11. This position shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization..
  • Employee is required to obtain and maintain certification in CPR, Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), DoD Hazardous Materials Awareness and Alaska State Police Information Network.
  • Employee is responsible for attaining continuing dispatch and Intrusion Detection education requirements through in-service training.
  • Employee must maintain an overall compliance score of 90 percent, or better, as reviewed by the Advanced Quality Assurance (AQUA) software.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain a valid state of Alaska driver's license.
  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain clearance certification with the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN), Public Safety Commission, for access and exposure to law enforcement sensitive information.
  • Designated Mission Essential Position: Employee is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations.
