About the Position: Incumbent provides emergency response dispatching of police, fire and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment. Maintains an accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to assure prompt and accurate response.

Duties

Responsible for the receipt and effective evaluation of 911 emergency calls. Provides emergency medical dispatching (EMD) assistance to callers with medical emergencies using the local authority emergency medical dispatch system. Monitors status and availability of police, fire and medical units to assure an appropriate response is made. Maintain reports and retrieves needed statistical information using fire incident reporting system(s). Receives and reviews all incoming mail for the organization.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires incumbent to wear a uniform.
  • The work is performed in a highly stressful, restricted office environment.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work shift work. This entails working an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • This position has been determined to be Mission Essential regardless of weather conditions, Terrorist Force Protection Condition (TFPCON), or installation closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
  • This position has been determined to be a Key Position and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization. Shall not be filled by Ready Reservists to preclude position from being vacated during mobilization.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid state of Alaska drivers license.
  • Required certifications (within one year): DoD Telecommunicator I and II, DoD Hazardous Materials Awareness, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Emergency Medical Dispatch System, Alaska Public Safety Information Network (ASPIN).
  • This position requires the incumbent to maintain an overall compliance score of 90% percent, or better, as reviewed by the Advanced Quality Assurance (AQUA) software.
  • This position requires the incumbent to attain continuing dispatch and Intrusion Detection education through in-service training.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. To qualify at the GS-06 grade level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience receiving and evaluating emergency calls; and questioning callers to determine problem/nature of call to dispatch appropriate personnel and equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). To qualify at the GS-07 grade level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience receiving and evaluating 911 calls; determine problem/nature of call in order to dispatch appropriate emergency personnel and equipment; and providing basic instructions prior to arrival of responders. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/ level position in the federal service (GS-06).
