You will serve as a SAFETY & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the CNIC Installation, in the Safety and Occupational Health Office of NAVBASE POINT LOMA. Salary Range: GS-09: $68,297 to $88,786 GS-11: $82,633 to $107,421

Duties

You will assist management in formulating and preparing safety program policy statements, standards, guides, and similar materials applicable to the organization. You will advise management on their legal responsibility to provide a safe and healthful worksite for employees. You will conduct risk assessments to evaluate potential hazards related to a work process. You will implement safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes or conditions found. You will investigate workplaces, facilities, and operation mishaps by obtaining statements from witnesses or taking photographs of mishap scene. You will prepare reports of inspections and evaluations to identify safety and program deficiencies requiring correction and improvement. You will implement solutions using negotiation, conflict resolution, or leadership skills to obtain results that support organizational or mission requirements.

• This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Inspecting the work environment for hazardous operational conditions; 2) Identifying the origin, cause and contributing elements of mishaps and hazardous conditions occurring in the work environment; 3) Presenting safety and mishap prevention training to employees; 4) Advising workers on safety requirements, potential accident causing situations and methods for preventing accidents NOTE: Experience must be fully supported in your resume to be considered for this position. GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Inspecting the work environment and identifying hazardous operational condition; 2) Investigating accidents and identifying the cause; 3) Preparing reports of inspection findings and accident investigations (e.g. witness statements, description of property damage, extent of injuries and contributing elements of mishaps and hazardous conditions occurring in the work environment). A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR

Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR
