This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as the Army Medical Command/Office of the Surgeon General Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System-Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH) subject matter expert and Army Industrial Hygiene Representative to DOEHRS-IH sustainment and modernization programs.

Duties

Develop and implement strategies for Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System-Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH) maintenance and modernization. Develop DOEHRS-IH metrics and conduct data analysis for myriad purposes including support to public health initiatives, Congressional inquiries, policy and guidance development, service delivery and program execution assessment. Serve as an Army industrial hygiene and data management authority, advisor and consultant. Establish and continuously improve a DOEHRS-IH quality assurance (QA) program, developing guidelines, procedures and criteria to assure data reliability. Serve as the DOEHRS-IH functional interface to the DoD Industrial Hygiene Working Group and other committees to standardize industrial hygiene practices across military services. Develop Army industrial hygiene data management policy and business practices collaborating with related disciplines, e.g., safety and occupational health, environmental health and occupational medicine.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret Security Clearance.
  • Up to 10% TDY may be required.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Industrial Hygienist: Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR Related Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum. OR Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: One year of specialized experience which includes serving as technical expert of industrial hygiene processes; managing health hazard information management systems; interpreting published occupational health standards; and applying occupational health standards to automation systems and data management. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
