Duties
Serves as Supervisory Transportation Assistant with responsibility for planning and directing the activities of employees engaged in performing a wide variety of transportation clerical and complex technical Transportation Assistant functions.
Accountable and responsible for assigned program(s) to include development, documentation, and operation of both internal processes and administrative controls.
Coordinates the movement of inbound and outbound shipments by scheduling and coordinating of carrier delivery or pick-up of freight.
Arranges for the most economical shipment of freight and processes associated documents involved in the movement of inbound and outbound shipments.
Maintains knowledge of the Transportation Programs and is aware of and analyzes problem areas and situations that are complex or unusually difficult.
Directs section operations through subordinates involved in procedural and routine actions that typically provide services to the Transportation Branch.
Furnishes advice concerning major program areas and makes major or long range traffic analyses on various facets of traffic management programs.
Keeps staff abreast of policy and changes which affect inbound and outbound shipment operations, training the necessary staff members as well as maintaining the transportation and traffic management files.

Qualifications
To Qualify as a Supervisory Transportation Assistant you must have:
A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To qualify at the GS-09 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:
Experience analyzing and planning workload data, recommending priorities and distribution of resources including labor and equipment for assigned organizational areas.
Experience providing traffic management oversight on transportation and traffic management matters.
Experience planning and directing the work of the operation and supervises general schedule employees performing a variety of technical duties.
B. Education: Applicants may not qualify for this position based on education in lieu of specialized experience.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
