You will serve as a PRODUCTION SHOP PLANNER (A/C EQUIPMENT MECHANIC) in the Service Shop (Code 990), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will reorder material or obtain it from an alternate source. You will compile work packages that consist of Task Group Instructions (TGI’s), drawings, technical requirements and shop processes/procedures. You will identify effective application of trade resources, efficient utilization of manpower, material, equipment and special tools needed to accomplish specified work tasks. You will prepare material request forms as necessary. You will maintain files of manufacturers’ catalogs, parts, lists, material specifications and similar documents. You will assist supervisors in determining appropriate material and suggest substitute material to engineering personnel as appropriate.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THEPOSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION Experience establishing and tracking materials, compiling work packages, tools, determining locations for storage, and efficient applications of like work through knowledge of shop operating, trade practices, and material management automated systems. Experience working to project schedules, setting priorities, obtaining TGI's, tagouts, special tooling, test requirements, and other materials to prevent issues in production work. Experience maintaining the status of project related problems, maintaining organized and precise records of completed work documents, and understanding, implementing, and complying with rules, and requirements for the ordering, storing, identifying, and handling of material.
