You will serve as a Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic in the Service Shop (Code 990), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will lay-out, installs, and removes temporary refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, chill water, and dehumidification systems aboard naval vessels, on piers, and in dry docks.
You will install duct, piping, tubing, control wiring, control devices, gauges and monitoring equipment associated with the operation of the systems.
You will analyze data and initiate the service, repair, or replacement of equipment and components in the field, and develop alternate work methods for unusual or difficult operations.
You will perform maintenance to include cleaning and changing fitters, oiling and greasing components, cleaning coils, replacement or adjustment of belts, and adjustment of control devices.
You will perform major repair and overhaul by disassembly, inspection and replacement of equipment and components.
Requirements

- Must be able to operate a crane, truck, tractor or vehicle.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is primarily accomplished at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, however, the incumbent may be assigned duty stations throughout the Hampton Roads area in the cities of Norfolk, Virginia Beach or Chesapeake, Virginia.
- May be required to perform duties as a qualified radiation worker and to pass radiological physical examination and required nuclear training.
- May be required to perform duties of a high-quality water operator.
Qualifications
