THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION THAT REQUIRES MILITARY MEMBERSHIP.
This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, Position Description Number PDD2756000 and is part of the Mississippi National Guard.
Duties
As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-11, you will performe a full range of aircraft maintenance duties including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repair and ground testing of assemblies, systems, and surfaces for one or more types of military aircraft, fixed and rotary wing, manned and unmanned.
MAJOR DUTIES:
1. Accomplishes complete checkout of the total aircraft and troubleshoots all systems. This includes monitoring and performing periodic and special inspections and defueling and servicing operations. Conducts ground functional tests of all aircraft systems, including turbine engines, and rigs and adjusts flight controls, fuel controls and related engine components prior to and during flight tests. Is authorized to and performs start and run-up of rotary wing and/or fixed wing aircraft to perform operational tests using aircraft engine power as authorized and required. Certifies that inspection, maintenance, and repairs have been accomplished within prescribed parameters. Diagnoses written and verbal pilot comments regarding deficiencies in aircraft performance. Operationally checks, troubleshoots, and repairs aircraft systems and associated mechanisms by connecting, adjusting, and operating test equipment. Documents deficiencies, malfunctions and repair required to return the aircraft to serviceable condition. Accomplishes repairs and modifications or coordinates maintenance action of appropriate specialists (e.g., avionics, sheet metal, etc.) together with documentation. Performs authorized major modifications within assigned functional area as required. Assigns and directs the work of one or more subordinate Aircraft Mechanics and coordinates such work as sheet metal, avionics, engine, prop, and rotor, etc., which is performed by allied shops specialists.
2. Guides lower-level mechanics in performance of tasks. Conducts on-the-job training on assigned systems and related support equipment and tasks to include classroom instruction as necessary. Processes and accounts for due-in supply assets. Ensures that material and equipment are properly stored, protected, and maintained and that funds are not obligated for material or parts without proper justification. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations. May be required to serve on maintenance assistance teams throughout supported region.
3. May participate in aerial flights, which are defined by applicable Army publications for Maintenance Test Flights, for the purpose of observing, recording, and diagnosing malfunctions with digital test equipment, or otherwise assisting in determining the performance of the aircraft.
4. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
This is an indefinite position, tenure 3, with a time limit determined by the needs of the agency. Any permanent military technician who is selected for this position will become tenure 3. The selectee will receive the same benefits and entitlements as the tenure 1 employee, but will be considered tenure 3 for purposes of reduction in force. If a permanent resource becomes available, incumbent may be converted to a permanent appointment without competition.
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
MILITARY MEMBERS WITH BONUSES: Upon acceptance of a military technician position military members who are currently receiving a military Reenlistment/Extension Bonus (REB) or GI Bill-SR Kicker may lose incentive eligibility and may be subject to termination or suspension of incentive (includes indefinite and temporary technicians on assignment for more than 180 days in any continuous 12-month period).
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 18 months of experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.
