About the Position: This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Employees occupying DCIPS positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the Army Medical Department Activity under Plans, Training, Mobilization and Education Division with duty location Fort Meade, MD.

Duties

Serves as a Command Security Specialist and Security Subject Matter Expert (SME) in a U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM) Security Office. Serves as the command’s entry point of contact on Personnel Security (PERSEC) matters. Assists U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM) personnel with in-processing and out-processing tasks pertaining to Personnel Security (PERSEC). Serves as Security Specialist for the Information Security (INFOSEC) program. Establishes and approves collateral Security Education Training Awareness (SETA) programs designed to establish and maintain unit collateral security proficiency. Verifies security clearances and need-to-know requirements for all individuals prior to granting access to classified information.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Two year trial period may be required.
  • In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Must be able to obtain and then continue to maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) based on a Special Background Investigation for the duties required.
  • May require temporary duty (TDY) travel up to 10% of the time.
  • May be required to work overtime/irregular schedules or extended hours due to exercises, national special security events, or during national security crises.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain the SFPC certification within their first two years of employment. This is the Department of Defense (DoD) Security Certification Program directed by DoD Instruction 3305.13.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.Specialized experience is defined as experience experience administering established Personnel Security(PERSEC) and Information (INFOSEC) programs; AND verifying security clearance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GG/GS-11). Specialized experience is progressively responsible intelligence-related security work directly related to the position being filled. Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector or in another government agency as long as it was at a level at least equivalent to the next lower band in the series.
