You will serve as a Sheet Metal Mechanic (Aircraft) Leader in the MRO Procuction Department of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.
Duties
You will work from blueprints and engineering specifications to install F/A-18 aircraft service changes.
You will fabricate metal repairs and modify F/A-18 aircraft sheet metal and composite structures and various component parts of the F/A-18 aircraft.
You will disassemble, modify, repair, and assemble structural parts and aerodynamic surfaces on F/A-18 aircraft and aircraft components such as wings, stabilators, fuselages, tails, access panels, and metal components that make up the assemblies.
You will install airframe changes, engineering modifications, structural repairs, and technical enhancements to meet aircraft maintenance requirements.
You will manufacture new skins, patches, reinforcements, doublers, brackets, panels, and other sheet metal parts for installation utilizing bolts, rivets, and pins and other structural fasteners.
You will work with a variety of metals such as aluminum, titanium, magnesium, steel, stainless steel, and other alloys.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination

- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Incumbent must be able to lift regularly up to 35lbs and occasionally lift up to 45lbs.
- Incumbent may be exposed to noise, dirt, vibration and at times crowded facilities and high temperatures. When working outdoors, may be exposed to inclement weather, high winds, cold/heat, glare, dampness, dust, smoke, etc.
Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to Lead or Supervise: (1) Possessing full journeyman skills and working knowledge in the sheet metal processing techniques and aircraft maintenance procedures; (2) Fabricating metal repairs and modifying aircraft sheet metal and composite structures and various parts; (3) Disassembling, modifying repairs and assembling structural parts and aerodynamic surfaces on aircraft and associated components; (4) Installing airframe changes, engineering modifications, structural repairs and technical enhancements to meet requirements; (5) Reading, interpreting and complying with directions and requirements within blueprints, sketches, technical data, and engineering specifications; (6) Demonstrating acceptable level of skill pertaining to the use of hand tools related to the metal smith trade; (7) Utilizing skills for sheet metal machinery; (8) Using precision measuring tools to accomplish work tasks; and (9) Communicating and providing training and instruction to personnel of various levels
