About the Position: This position is with the U.S Army Sustainment Command, 404th Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center, Transportation Division, located in Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

Duties

Manufacture and repair wooden containers for packing and shipping materials, including ammunition and sensitive items. Secure various types of cargo using wooden blocks, braces, and staying devices to ensure safe transport in conveyances. Perform packing tasks for classified, hazardous, and non-hazardous materials, ensuring safe and damage-free movement. Operate forklifts to load and unload materials, ensuring proper load balance and protection. Use and maintain hand and power tools and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 70 pounds in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear protective and safety equipment.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain and maintain a forklift operator license/certification to operate forklifts with a 10,000-pound lift capacity within one year of entry into the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain certification in the preparation of hazardous materials within one year of entry into the position and complete recertification training every two years thereafter.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Frequently exposed to unpleasant extremes of heat and cold and inclement weather conditions and to dirt, dust, grease, and sand. Exposed to noise hazards, to irritation from dust and sawdust and to possible injuries. Must wear necessary protective and safety equipment such as safety glasses, face shields, safety shoes, gloves, hearing protection, and other equipment and clothing when required. Works in woodworking shop that is generally heated, lighted and ventilated. Exposed to noise hazards (hearing protection required), dirt, and irritations from fumes, glues, bonding agents, paint, stains, varnish, sawdust, splinters, etc. Subject to possible accidental injury such as cuts, loss of fingers, broken bones, bruises and possible death from operating shop power equipment, from falls and falling lumber, tools, etc. Must wear necessary protective and safety equipment such as safety glasses, face shields, safety shoes, and other equipment and clothing.
