About the Position: This position is with the U.S Army Sustainment Command, 404TH Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center, Transportation Division, located in JBLM, WA.

Duties

Construct and/or repair wooden crates, boxes, and other shipping containers. Use hand or power tools to cut, shape, and/or assemble wood or wood substitutes. Read and/or interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications. Ensure that items are securely braced and/or blocked to prevent damage during transport. Inspect and/or maintain tools and equipment.

Requirements

  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 70 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles with 5-ton capacity.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to be certified in the prep of HAZMAT and complete recertification every 2 years.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to operate forklifts with a 10,000-lb. lift capacity.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and annually thereafter.

Work requires ability to stand, stoop, climb, bend and reach. Working Conditions: Works inside vans, warehouses, etc., and in outside areas. Frequently exposed to unpleasant extremes of heat and cold and inclement weather conditions and to dirt, dust, grease, and sand. Exposed to noise hazards, to irritation from dust and sawdust and to possible injuries. Must wear necessary protective and safety equipment such as safety glasses, face shields, safety shoes, gloves, hearing protection, and other equipment and clothing when required. Works in woodworking shop that is generally heated, lighted and ventilated. Exposed to noise hazards (hearing protection required), dirt, and irritations from fumes, glues, bonding agents, paint, stains, varnish, sawdust, splinters, etc. Subject to possible accidental injury such as cuts, loss of fingers, broken bones, bruises and possible death from operating shop power equipment, from falls and falling lumber, tools, etc. Must wear necessary protective and safety equipment such as safety glasses, face shields, safety shoes, and other equipment and clothing.
