The primary function of this position is to serve as Laundry Worker for the Laundry Section, Facility Management Service at the VA Caribbean Healthcare System (VACHS), San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Duties
Major Duties:
Collects soiled textiles.
Transports soiled and clean textiles.
Maintain textiles protected and covered during transportation.
Unload soiled linen bags from the soiled linen carts, dumping bags onto a conveyor system for transporting.
Sort soiled linen items to ensure proper washing and handling techniques are followed.
Shakes out articles of wet linen items checking for knots, damage, and stained items.
Manipulates large quantities of linens via monorail system.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM-2:30 PM

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Exposure to noise, vibration, and hot and humid atmospheric conditions associated with textile care setting. Requires walking continuously on concrete floors, stooping. bending, pushing, pulling and lifting.
