You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY ENGINEER/SCIENTIST in the RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT GROUP/WEAPONS & ENERGETICS DEPT/WEAPONS MS&A DIV of NAVAIRWARCENWPNDIV CHINA LAKE.

Duties

You will develop tools that streamline analyst workflows and help capture, organize, and visualize data from simulation and test events. You will install and maintain the Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis Tool Suite You will , develop and implement updates to SoSMART in conjunction with SoSTE development cycles, and meet analyst desires in developing specific features to support analysis workflows. You will centrally maintain the development of analysis tools while proliferating to all necessary IFL networks, and continue personal development of coding best practices.

  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.

Qualifications

In addition to meeting the basic educational requirements: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (DP-03/GS 9-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Engineer or Scientist. Specialized experience would consist of some or all of the following: 1)Installing and maintaining the Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis (MS&A) Tool Suite data; 2)experience with code management tools; 3) Experience with code management tools (git, etc.); 4) Experience applying coding best practices;5) providing data analysis, visualization, modeling, and simulation. (0801) Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

OR

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). OR

Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.

(1310):Degree: Physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. Or Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

(1320): Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. Or: Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

(1520):Degree: Mathematics or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics. Or: Combination of Education and Experience -- courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics), as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

(1550):Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science Or: Bachelor's Degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. Applicants should have sufficient knowledge to understand the fundamental concepts and techniques of computer science. Courses designed to provide an introduction to computer science techniques and methodologies, to problems of system design, and to other specialized fields are acceptable. Courses or experience in teaching elementary, business, or shop mathematics are not acceptable.
