You will serve as a Crane Operator Supervisor in the Ordnance Operations Division, Crane and Rigging Branch (Code N42A121) of Naval Magazine Indian Island.
Duties
You will serve as the first-line supervisor for a workgroup performing crane and rigging operations involved in the receipt, inspection, segregation, storage, issue, inventory, handling and shipping of explosive and inert ordnance material.
You will assign work by means of verbal or written instructions, providing technical guidance as required.
You will direct, train, and demonstrate the proper use of equipment and materials to subordinates, including the proper recording, barcode scanning, and handling procedures for material stowage.
You will ensure all materials being shipped, received and stowed in any type of conveyance or magazine are palletized, unitized and secured in accordance with current Weapons Requirements and Military Standards.
You will ensure all required functional and operational Quality Inspections are performed.
You will ensure subordinates conform to all specified technical and safety requirements relating to ordnance material and operations involving the handling, renovation, preservation, packaging and movement of such items.
You will assure inspections of material handling equipment and ordnance handling equipment are property performed for required safety standards prior to use.
You will arrange for workers, equipment, tools, facilities, publications, documents, and other resources needed to accomplish work operations.
You will ensure subordinates meet all required qualification and/or certification and licensing requirements.
You will conduct safety meetings and work area safety inspections in accordance with detachment regulations.
You will ensure subordinates comply with all hazardous material (HAZMAT) program control procedures and ensure awareness of Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) requirements.
You will ensure employees wear and use protective clothing and/or equipment of the type approved by the Safety Department when needed for the safe performance of duties.
You will administer the annual weight handling equipment (WHE) self-assessment and provide completed reports to the Region WHE Program Manager.
You will coordinate with the Training Officer for formal courses of classroom instruction on the various aspects of Cat 1 through 4 WHE operation and safety.
You will assist the Training Officer in maintaining accurate license and certification files for all WHE personnel.
You will manipulate controls of cranes to lift and move heavy loads of explosives and inert ordnance and ordnance related equipment, general cargo, various shipboard and pier side equipment, intermodal containers, and occasional unique complex lifts.
Requirements

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to successfully complete physical examinations for explosive operations personnel, motor vehicle operators, and forklift operators.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Hazardous Materials endorsement.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current forklift operator certification.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain certification in accordance with the Navy personnel conventional ammunition and explosives (AE) handling qualification and certification program.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
Qualifications
