You will serve as a CRANE OPERATOR in the ORDNANCE OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT, NAVY MUNITIONS COMMAND, CONUS WEST DIVISION of NAVMAG INDIAN ISLAND.

Duties

You will manipulate controls of cranes to lift and move heavy loads of explosives and inert ordnance and ordnance related equipment, general cargo, various shipboard and pier side equipment, and intermodal containers. You will operate cranes at all boom lengths, angles and positions at or near the crane's lifting capacity and within extremely congested areas. You will perform activities involving the receipt, segregation, storage, issue, inspection, inventory, handling and shipping of explosives and inert ordnance material, assuring adherence to inspection, safety, and security criteria. You will offload/onload ordnance materials from various conveyances using forklifts, manual and mechanized pallet jacks, side loaders, top handlers, and stacker cranes. You will block, brace, and lash vessels such as ships and barges; land conveyances such as van and flatbed trailers, rail box and flat cars; and intermodal containers; laden with explosives and inert ordnance, hazardous materials, or general cargo. You will maintain a Class A license with HAZMAT endorsement to operate motor vehicles up to tractor-trailers typically having a gross vehicle weight of more than 32,000 lbs.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Class A license.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You must be able to lift/carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
