The DEA seeks Federal employees in a permanent attorney position to serve a one-year reimbursable detail. If the parties are agreeable, the detail may be extended.
This position is located within the Office of the Administrator and serves as a close, confidential advisor to and representative of the Administrator on regulatory and administrative matters.
Duties
Following the direction of the Administrator, the duties will include:
Advise the Administrator on cross-cutting legal, legislative, and policy matters of importance related to DEA's regulatory and administrative functions and create relevant briefing materials and analysis.
Review extremely complex and difficult legal questions or factual issues involved in the drafting, interpretation, or application of legislative, regulations, contracts, orders, decisions, opinions or other legal instruments and provide advice and analysis to the Administrator.
Outline factual and legal issues as well as policy considerations; analyze factual and legal concerns as well as policy concerns; explain the application of legal principals; and justify proposed decisions for the Administrator's consideration.
Lead enterprise-wide projects and initiatives that align with DEA priorities and objectives designed to drive strategic and operational sustainability.
Work closely with the DEA Administrator and staff to design and execute project plans, communication plans and change management plans.
Represent the DEA in internal and interagency meetings to brief various policy matters.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Employment is subject to the successful completion of a background investigation. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

- Must be active member of a Bar Association
Qualifications
Required: To qualify for this position, applicants must possess ALL of the requirements below:
Possess a J.D. Degree; be duly licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney under the laws of any State, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Be an active bar member in good standing.
At least four (4) years post J.D. legal experience.

Education
A J.D. degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools that meet these criteria, see
