This position is located in Golden Gate National Recreation Area, in the Interpretation and Education Division. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately mid-February through the end of January and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year (1 pay period).

Duties

Serve as the park-wide Volunteer and Youth Program Assistant in the Interpretation and Education Division of Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA), which includes Muir Woods National Monument and Fort Point National Historical Site. As the Park's program assistant supporting the Volunteer and Youth Program Park Coordinator and Park Manager, provide administrative support for the park-wide Volunteer and Internship Programs. Major Duties: Support the coordination of all aspects of Park-wide Volunteer and Youth Program Internships; support staff in all divisions including interpretation and education, visitor and resource protection, maintenance, administration, planning, and natural and cultural resources. Support logistics, training, and onboarding of volunteers and interns that are part of the Volunteer and Youth Programs. Conduct community outreach and recruitment. Respond to inquiries and utilize Volunteer.gov accounts and the Volunteer and Internship sections of the Park Websites using Content Management System (CMS) software system for recruitment purposes. Interact professionally with broad range of stakeholders: volunteer supervisors, agency team members, external partners, volunteers, interns, and visitors working collaboratively in a team environment to support a high functioning work group. Support internal and external communications for the Volunteer and Youth Programs including, but not limited to, web content, social media content, emails, outreach materials, and promotional presentations. Physical Demands: This position spends 75% of time indoors and 25% outside. Duties require frequent trips to various park units or surrounding communities for program coordination, meetings, etc. Special events and interpretive programs may require long periods of standing, walking on hard surfaces, and the ability to lift 25 pounds. The climate is moderate. Working Conditions: Work is usually performed in an office setting, but there is occasional exposure to the outdoor park environment. Some travel may be required. This is a uniformed position; incumbent will be required to wear a NPS uniform. Incumbent is required to hold a valid driver's license. Work is performed both indoors in office setting and outdoors throughout the year. Local travel may be required to meet volunteer groups or work leaders, meet with community groups, or attend meetings. The incumbent is required to work outside in all types of weather and terrain conditions. Days and hours of work may vary from a regular scheduled tour of duty to night work, holiday, or weekend tours of duty as youth and volunteer program operations.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-11/11/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position has a Foreign Language Requirement. The applicant mustbe conversationally fluent in at least one of the following languages: Spanish Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) Filipino/Tagalog Your resume must describe your foreign language proficiency level. Candidates who do not meet the Foreign Language Requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position. - AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position to be filled. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include, but are not limited to, the following: organizing, planning, coordinating, and execution of volunteer, intern, youth, school/student programs; presenting formal and informal interpretive experiences in person and through media; assisting with writing reports, developing, supporting, presenting trainings and orientations for workshops; working directly with a wide range of people in planning, coordinating, executing group activities, and assisting in recruiting volunteers and interns. This experience may have been gained through working in events management, public relations, teaching, or related activities. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level of this announcement.
