About the position: This position will be assigned to the Arts and Crafts Center at Fort Richardson, AK.
This is a Regular Part Time position, meaning you are guaranteed a minimum of 20 hours per week to a maximum of 40 hours per week. Duties
Frames patron artwork or pictures following work order specifications. Selects finished wood or wood substitute/material from existing stock, measures and uses chopper to cut material to desired dimensions, and cuts stock with cutter or miter saw and glues or nails frame comers together. The incumbent uses small hand tools (e.g. hammer, drill, nail punch, glass scorer, mat knife, stapler, paper cutter) to assemble the picture frame. Cuts mat board to achieve special cutting effects specified in the work order. Measures and cuts fabric or paper mat material, mounts artwork to mat or backing assembly, and secures work with retention staples. The work is completed with a heat seal to mount the picture to the backing. Measures, scores and breaks protective glass to proper dimensions. Measures, cuts and assembles backing materials and picture hanging devices.
Maintains perpetual control on all inventory items associated with the frame shop using pre-established procedures and methods. Submits written requests for additional stock and supplies as needed. Maintains shop tools and assures tools are kept in good working order.
Assists patrons by demonstrating picture framing and matting techniques, including use and safety practices of shop equipment. Selects, issues and receives hand tools used by patrons.
Receives specific guidance and technical instructions from supervisor in the form of work orders, sketches, and oral instructions. Instructions are generally complete and deviations from established procedures require approval. Routine work assignments may be performed independently. Assignments typically consist of repetitive and routine work sequences involving preparing, constructing, and assembling standard frames, mats and glass materials. Incumbent follows established safety procedures and practices when using hand and power equipment. Work is spot-checked in progress and upon completion for compliance with instructions, objectives, and adherence to quality standards.

Qualifying Experience:
Must have experience which demonstrates knowledge of a limited range of woodworking materials, techniques and processes; skill in basic layout procedures for repetitive assignments; skill in use of a variety of hand and power tools such as drills, hammers, miter box, frame cutters, and corner jigs. Must be able to stand, bend and stoop for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds and frequently lift and move heavier items with the assistance of other workers. Must have ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Must possess skill in dealing with the public. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
