Duties
Temporary Change of Station (TCS) relocation expenses have been authorized for this position. TCS means the relocation to a new official station for a temporary period while performing a long-term assignment and subsequent return to the previous official station upon completion of that assignment. This position serves a the Division Chief of the Mission Readiness Operations Division of a Border Patrol Sector Headquarters.
This position starts at a salary of $130,148.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $169,195.00 (GS-14, Step 10).
The Supervisory Mission Support Specialist (Division Chief) is responsible for leading the development and implementation of key mission support processes for the organization through subordinate supervisors. Duties and responsibilities include:
Advising the Chief Patrol Agent and other supervisors on key mission support processes while developing overall operational plans, objectives and strategies for these processes; ensuring the integration of these areas with current strategic plans to ensure they support achievement of core processes.
Testing, developing and adapting new methods and theories; recommending inclusion or modification for use by other organizations; monitoring and evaluating the delivery of support services to key managers, employees, and other customers; developing and implementing short and long term plans to improve the delivery of services;
Ensuring the implementation of national financial policies and integration with other agency operational process; partnering with the Chief Finance Officer in developing, evaluating, and improving financial policy, plans, and processes.
Providing a full range of supervisory functions for a staff that provides a diverse range of mission support services; assigning tasks and work to subordinate supervisors while setting priorities and schedules for completion.
Qualifications
Experience: To qualify for the GS-14 grade level, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
Providing comprehensive advisory and technical services on substantive mission support functions and work practices.
Building and managing the workforce based organizational goals, budget constraints and staffing needs.
Rapidly adapting to new information, changing conditions, and unexpected obstacles.
Building consensus through give and take and gaining cooperation from others to obtain information and accomplish goals.
Identifying and analyzing problems, weighing relevance and accuracy of information, and evaluating alternative solutions to make recommendations.

Education Substitution: Education substitution is not available at the GS-14 grade level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must:
Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 10/31/2024.

Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
