You will serve as a Paralegal Specialist in the Office of Counsel, Executive Assistant to the Shipyard Commander of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF).

Duties

You will research, interpret, and apply statutes, regulations, and case law in managing requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act and the Privacy Act. You will prepare legal briefs on behalf of NAVSEA when necessary to deny requests for information including legal justification for doing so. You will prepare briefs for NAVSEA legal office to utilize in further processing of eligible cases; note and correct case file deficiencies (e.g. missing documents, inconsistent material, leads not investigated). You will utilize the US Code and Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), to analyze Beneficial Suggestions and make determination of eligibility for patent protection You will provide legal support to management in a variety of matters including environmental, fiscal, Federal Tort claims, Individual Personal Liability, and civilian personnel issues and policy.

Requirements

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Conducting and managing legal and administrative work methods or processes with legal documents or records research to ensure the effective operation of a legal office. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Completion of Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.)

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree (Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.)
~OR~
LL.M., if related (Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.)
