You will serve as a PARALEGAL SPECIALIST in THE JUDGE ADVOCATE GENERAL (JAG) of DSO WEST.

Duties

You will prepare forms, standard legal documents and routine correspondence. You will prepare cases in accordance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, precedents, policies, office practices and established procedures. You will examine all client service record entries for accuracy and review courts-martial charge sheets to determine completeness, and legal sufficiency and admissibility in court-material. You will process and coordinate courts-martial witness and expert witness travel arrangements within Defense Travel System (DTS). You will train subordinate enlisted and civilian personnel. You will deliver formal and informal presentations/trainings regarding legal or administrative procedures to appropriate audience.

Qualifications

GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-09 or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate performing duties such as the following:1) Preparing forms, standard legal documents (e.g., Clemency, witness requests, discovery requests, etc.), and routine correspondence; 2) Preparing, maintaining, and managing client case files and documentation for legal proceedings in accordance with statutory or regulatory requirements; 3) Researching legal documents such as pleadings, motions, requests for members vior dire, responses to similar documents; 4) Training subordinates on case file maintenance and management; and 5) Conducting investigations and interviewing clients/witnesses to obtain and verify information to formulate appropriate legal positions. GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-07 or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate performing duties such as the following:1) Analyzing legal correspondence, pleadings, and documents to verify factual and legal content in preparation for court proceedings; 2) Preparing, maintaining, and managing client case files within a case management system for courts-martial or administrative separation boards; 3) Conducting legal research, investigation, interviews, and other forms of information gathering to make recommendations on legal proceedings; and 4) Developing formal presentations, trainings, or reference material regarding legal or administrative procedures for an organization. P.H.D or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
OR
An LL.M degree, if related to the position being filled
OR
A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience is sufficient for meeting the minimum qualification requirements for this position.
