This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Applies a variety of methods, procedures, and techniques to lay out, install, align, repair, overhaul, and maintain various types of nonproduction industrial plant machinery, equipment, and systems.
Installs, aligns, repairs, overhauls, and maintains various non-production industrial plant machinery, equipment, and systems that have complex interrelationships among components.
Installs new impellers, bearings, sleeves, packing glands, change switches, float switches, and rebuilds pumps by replacing shafts, bearings, bushings, and similar parts.
Installs, replaces, adjusts, and sets various regulating or safety devices such as meters, gauges, governors, and automatic alarms.
Performs and assists with maintaining industrial waste and fire alarm systems through cleaning, rodding, flushing, repairing and locating of various water and wastewater lines throughout the systems on the installation.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
- The incumbent is subject to the provisions of the Federal Workplace Drug testing Program(s).
- Incumbent will be required to successfully pass physical examination as required by Federal and Office of Safety and Occupational Health guides.

- The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid Class C, State Driver's License.
- Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Industrial Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. - Ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks including diagnosing the source of troubles to determine the repairs required, materials or parts needed, and estimate the time required to complete repairs. Perform operational and functions tests and make required adjustments to ensure proper operation of the entire system. Performs preventive maintenance and repair of pumps, floats, drinking water wells at the vehicle wash facility, and swimming pools; lubricates, calibrates, adjusts, operates, etc. the pumps and equipment within the stations in accordance with a pre-established maintenance scheduled or as needed. Makes routine preventive maintenance operational checks of all equipment to ensure proper operation. Maintains equipment maintenance records. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Employee is required to do considerable walking, standing on concrete floors, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and working in cramped positions. Operator frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) unassisted and occasionally lifts and carries heavier items with assistance of other workers or with lifting devices. Heavier lifting is involved when handling chemicals and plant equipment, opening and closing valves, and cleaning, lubricating, and servicing equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed indoors and outdoors during all types of weather. Subject to hazards from infection, mechanical injury, falling into open pits and gas fumes. Exposed to constant noise, rotating machinery, vibration, dirt, grease, chemicals, oil and fumes in the work area. Floor and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, oily, and slippery. Frequently exposed to moving objects and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts, abrasions, and bruises from the use of tools and equipment and burns from chemicals. Occasionally climbs and works from ladders and stagings, which exposes the repairer to the possibility of serious injury from slipping and falling. Dirt, grease, and dampness are frequently encountered. Follows prescribed safety practices and use of safety equipment such as face shields, hearing protection, gloves, hard hats, safety steel-toe shoes, respirators, protective clothing, and safety glasses. Some items may be uncomfortable to wear and may be worn or used for long periods of time.
