This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at (SOTF) SUPPORT DIVISION ENGINEER BRANCH BLDGS AND MAINTENANCE SECTION, in Fort Liberty, North Carolina.

Duties

Operates and maintains the Security Operations Training Facility Classified, industrial Material Disintegrator System, multiple industrial classified document shredders located in various buildings within the SOTF complex. Performs in-house repair and maintenance on numerous large industrial equipment located in various locations within the SOTF 2,000 acre compound and the 850,000 square feet of facilities (10 facilities). Conducts pre, during and after use inspections of the security disintegrator and their associated feeding and waste evacuation systems. Performs required preventative maintenance, makes repairs on all industrial equipment including, but not limited to, disintegrators, shredders, conveyor systems, cyclone fans, vacuum evacuations systems, industrial walk-behind floor scrubbers, industrial vacuum cleaners, industrial burnishers, industrial buffers and other industrial equipment as assigned. Verifies users properly separate materials that may damage the equipment or pose an environmental hazard from the material to be destroyed. Applies a general knowledge and understanding of custodial tasks and technical knowledge of preventive maintenance tasks.

Requirements

  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The incumbent must obtain and maintain a Top Secret with Sensitive Compartmented Info. (SCI) Clearance.
  • This position may have TDY Travel up to 10%.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain confined space proficiency/perform confined space entry certification.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work without fear in enclosed spaces.
  • This position requires passing a pre-employment physical.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear protective safety equipment, such as safety shoes, safety glasses, goggles, respirators, hearing protection, hard hat, safety harness, etc.
  • This position requires the incumbent to occasionally wear escape respiratory protection.
  • This position requires the incumbent to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavier.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work in cramped positions for sustained periods of time. Work requires pushing, pulling, reaching, walking, standing, stooping, crawling, kneeling, and bending.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be exposed to noise, vibration, dirt, grease, smoke, and flying metal chips. Work requires repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and other hard-to-reach places.
  • Subject to falls from ladders and stages, eye injury, cuts, bruises, burns, broken bones, and discomfort from wearing protective clothing and gear. Work can be in confined spaces for long periods of time.
  • Work is performed outdoors and indoors under varying weather conditions and sometimes in places that are poorly lit, drafty and/or wet.
  • The position requires the incumbent to be physically able to readily access and exit manholes as small as 20 inches in diameter and other small entryways.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid State Driver’s License.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work alone on weekends, holidays, and other times when the need arises to handle routine work as assigned by supervisor.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be available to respond to emergency situations, with little or no notice (24 hours-per-day, 7 days-per-week).
  • A one year probationary / Trial May be required, unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Industrial Equipment Repairer without more than normal supervision. 1) performing minor and major repairs of various industrial pieces of equipment; 2) Conducting inspections of the industrial Material Disintegrator System 3) Performing required preventative maintenance and makes repairs on all industrial equipment such as large industrial blades, motors, pumps, cutting screens on the numerous industrial document shredders and 4) Uses a variety of power and hand tools in the performance of maintenance duties 5) Performs other facility maintenance including changing light bulbs, and moving equipment to designated areas as required. I work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews my work for completion.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT-Work is performed on hard surfaces and in areas that require standing, bending, stooping, and working in uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries supplies, materials and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavier. WORKING CONDITIONS-Work is performed mostly inside in a controlled environment. Work areas may be hot, cold, damp, drafty or poorly lighted. Sometimes works outside exposed to bad weather. The work may be dirty, dusty and greasy and the employee is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises or injury from mechanical conveyor systems. Position requires the incumbent to wear protective clothing such as hearing protection, respirator, safety shoes, goggles and gloves.
