You will serve as a Marine Operating Engineer Mechanic in the Lifting and Handling Department of PSNS and IMF.
Duties
You will follow all requirements concerning the use, storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
You will plan and arrange for proper and safe operations, ensuring that materials, tools and component parts are safe as well as proper for the work.
You will follow paperwork and documentation procedures involving trade processes including: Trade standard workbooks, maintenance requirement cards, manufacturers technical manuals, surveillances, administrative procedures, and governing documents.
You will plan, disassemble, inspect, overhaul, maintain and assemble components to shop process, technical work documents, and safety policies.
You will communicate both orally and in writing sufficient to allow an equally experienced employee to understand the information being presented.
You will complete oral or written assignments, but work is performed under general supervision using shop safety practices, drawings, and/or technical instructions.
You will operate and maintain drills as well as other hand tools such as grinders, wrenches, flushing and test equipment.
You will identify and mitigate safety hazards, including identifying and isolating sources of potential energy to the extent that equipment is placed in a safe condition prior to maintenance or repair.
You will perform maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and adjusting shipboard mechanical and electrical systems and components to ensure proper operation.
You will perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, and installing up to 800 horse power marine engines, outboard engines, and other equipment.
Requirements

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position requires that the selectee have visual acuity and accurate color discrimination. I am able to distinguish between colors and shades of colors.
- This position requires that the selectee be willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding. I am willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding.
- This position requires the ability to lift/carry items weighing up to 75 pounds.
