This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Health Security (OHS). OHS is the principal medical, workforce health and safety, and public health authority for DHS. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Deputy Assistant Director of the OHS Healthcare Systems and Oversight Directorate (HCSOD). Non-BU: This is a non-bargaining unit position.

Duties

As a Supervisory Health Scientist (Deputy Assistant Director), GS-0601-15, your typical work assignments may include: Directly supervises and provides leadership and direction to division directors and other staff comprised of medical and health professionals, support staff, and program managers. Manages the day-to day operations of the Healthcare Systems and Oversight Directorate and provides administrative and technical oversight to divisions and personnel within the Directorate. Develops staff performance plans and providing periodic performance reviews and assessments. Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Evaluates work performance of subordinates. Gives advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Qualifications

Individual Occupational Requirement This position has an Individual Occupational Requirement that must be met prior to meeting the specialized experience. Education Possession a bachelors or graduate/higher level degree in a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position (examples include: Health Education, Community Health Education, Public Health, Health Promotion/Adult Fitness, biological, veterinary medicine, other health sciences). The degree must be from an accredited body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained A graduate or higher/level degree is highly desired. NOTE: You must provide copies of transcripts for evaluation as part of your application package. Failure to do so, will result in not receiving consideration for this position. Specialized Experience To qualify for this position, you must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in Federal Service or private/public sector equivalent experience. For this position, specialized experience is defined as: Directing a program of professional and highly technical work with focus on the integration of healthcare systems and delivery activities. Assigning work to personnel across multiple teams based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Managing the development and implementation of major medical, public health and health security programs that ensure comprehensive and integrated provision of care for individuals in custody. NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level. All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement. Note: Current or former Federal employees MUST submit a copy of their SF-50 Form which shows competitive service appointment ("position occupied" block 34 on the SF-50 should show a "1"), tenure group (block 24 should show a 1 or 2), grade, and salary.
