This position is located at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Chillicothe, OH Medical Center, and is assigned to the Office of the Manager, Patient Business Service (PBS). The incumbent functions as a Program Support Assistant for the Manager, PBS, and coordinates the day-to day activities of PBS in order to meet the administrative needs of the service.
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Provides administrative and technical assistance in the areas of day-to-day operations and program planning for PBS.
Receives, schedules, refers, and contacts members of the staff, medical center and persons outside the medical center ranging from other government agencies to the general public.
Provides general clerical public contact support services such as answering the telephone, referring visitors, or providing information about the office, its functions, and standard operating procedures, as well as similar information.
Schedules training for service employees and maintains records using the TMS computer program to preschedule, record attendance and print reports.
Interacts with all services and programs, both professional and administrative, in performing assigned duties, and is in daily contact with services and programs throughout the medical center on matters of personnel, supplies and equipment.
Enters requests for materials and services using the designated computer program.
Initiates review and updating of PBS Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and Medical Center memoranda.
Serves as official timekeeper for PBS Managers office.
Coordinates key control program for all PBS employees.
Runs reports, provides access, and advises leadership of program initiatives.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/30/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: experience where you were responsible for providing administrative support; collecting, compiling and tracking data and information; processing documents and reports; establishing, updating and maintaining office files and records; performing automation duties using such software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, database and/or graphics; and providing information and customer service.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The majority of work is sedentary; however, some walking and light lifting is necessary to perform duties. Bending and stooping are also required in carrying out filing duties.
