This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Vets incoming subjects to determine whether appropriate need for access exists.
Performs vehicle checks to ensure safe and secure access to the installation.
Renders first aid if warranted in an emergency.
Alerts appropriate officials of security violations.
Conducts random inspections in accordance with force protection requirements.
Provides authoritative guidance and information on security regulations and procedures in response to security inquiries.
Questions suspicious persons to warn or detain as appropriate.
Exercises crowd control during events and/or demonstrations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminals.
- In accordance with AR 190-56, must meet the requirements of Individual Reliability Program.
- Required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) as outlined in AR 190-56.
- Department of the Army Security Guards (DASG) must qualify and maintain appropriate level security clearance, satisfactorily complete initial training, field training program (FTP), and annual required training IAW AR 190-56.
- Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
- Must wear the prescribed Department of Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56; must maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- This is a drug testing designated position. Incumbent agrees to submit to a mandatory command directed urinalysis on a recurring basis IAW AR 600-85.
- Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Fluctuating tours of duty; evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Overtime, both scheduled and unscheduled, as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
- Must successfully complete security guard training.
- Must successfully complete and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and First Aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
- Required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
- Must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
- Position is designated as Mission Essential.
- Position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) or Business Travel is up to 5%
- Must complete the required Immunization Screening.
- Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes working with federal, state, municipal, local or private protective organization safeguarding personnel, information, and/or assets, recording visitor information, and determining whether authorization for access exists; protecting property against hazards such as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
