About the Position: Serves as an Eligibility Specialist in Interment Services, Arlington National Cemetery (ANC).
Duties
Support interment scheduling by assisting in eligibility determinations for interment/inurnment in Arlington National Cemetery (ANC).
Coordinate with funeral directors, mortuary officers, casualty assistance officers, family representatives, or next of kins for required documents.
Perform legal research and review of all documents received from family members and relatives of deceased and their dependents regarding burial entitlements, person authorized direct disposition of the remains and associated services provided by ANC.
Exercise tact, judgment, and consideration in providing and obtaining information as family members are often emotional and may require lengthy and detailed explanations.
Thoroughly documents all aspects of interactions for historical accuracy and process improvement.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- One year trial period may be required.
- The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019 and must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
Qualifications
Term Appointment NTE - Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 3 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: researching policies and regulations to make accurate decisions; utilizing computer systems and/or online databases to determine eligibility; and documenting all aspects of interactions for historical accuracy and process improvement. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education substitution: successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Business Management, Human Resources Management, or Mortuary Science.

Combination of Experience and Education: a combination of the specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have more than one year but less than the required education in B. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
