This position will be assigned to the Randolph Lodging Facility at Randolph AFB.
This is a regular part-time category position with guaranteed 20 hours per week, may work up to 40hrs/week.
Employees appointed to regular category positions are eligible for benefits.
Must be physically able to occasionally lift and carry objects weighing 50 pounds or more. Must be able to continuously stand, bend, stoop, and reach for long periods of time
Duties
1. Inspects building and structures to determine nature and extent of repairs required. Perform minor construction and repair on existing structures involving standard measurements, specifications, instructions and basic shop mathematics. Installs exterior and interior trim using pre-planned materials, such as base board and molding. Replaces broken, discolored, or missing acoustical ceiling tile, broken doors and window trim, window screens, stairway steps, wooden porches, door jambs and other damaged wood components. Repairs sticking doors and windows and replaces weather stripping, broken or cracked glass, loose hinges and faulty door locks. Removes and replaces damaged carpeting. Interprets specifications, such as work orders and sketches or easily understood blueprints and technical instructions to plan and lay out work. Repairs and refinishes furniture and repairs Formica.
2. Inspects for plumbing repairs or responds to work orders and locates and makes repairs to plumbing. Removes, cleans, replaces, packages, and scales defective parts of utility, supply, and disposal systems such as dirty traps, sections of broken tile or pipe, and leaky drains using existing routes, openings, hangers and levels. Caulks and seals elbows, union joints, and tiles or pipes, faucets and shower drains. Checks operations and completes needed repairs to small parts and sections of existing systems such as water heater, disposal units and faucets. May operate a government vehicle to include light truck, sedan, golf cart, etc.
3. Inspects equipment, furnishing and buildings for deterioration of painted surfaces and rusty metal surfaces. Mixes and blends paint and other coating material to obtain desired consistency and color following specific written directives. Applies paint to exterior and interior surfaces such as furniture, doors, walls, trims, steps, porches, and similar surfaces. Prepares wood and metal surfaces to be painted, and mixes, thins and applies coating material. Prepares surfaces by scraping, wire brushing, masking, spackling and sanding surfaces. Applies coating materials such as primers, paints, varnishes and shellacs using standard application techniques and ensures that the coating finish meets surface protection requirements.
4. Makes minor electrical repairs by replacing fixtures, switches, sockets, bulbs and fluorescent fixtures, and minor television, radio repairs and replacing remotes, etc.
5. Inspects interior plumbing fixtures, fittings and pipes for defective parts or malfunction. Repairs and replaces defective faucets, valves, showerheads, lavatories, laundry traps and drinking fountains. Clear stopped up drain lines.

- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use. Must have a valid driver's license.

Qualifying Experience: Applicant must have knowledge of woodworking techniques and basic shop mathematics to plan, layout, measure, cut, construct and install materials according to dimensional requirements and specifications where fit and accuracy are written within specified tolerances. Must have knowledge of standard plumbing methods and techniques including flow and drainage. Must have the ability to join and seal elbows, faucets, shower drains, plastic, metal and title pipes, and similar items. Must be able to perform small appliance repairs, etc. Must have ability to read and follow specific directions that explain how to apply and use prepared solvents and how to thin and stir coating materials. Must know how to operate and maintain hand and power tools and equipment such as power drills, saws, brace and bits. Hammers, chisels, wrenches and screwdrivers. Must understand and apply safety regulations and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
1. Knowledge of woodworking techniques and basic shop mathematics.
2. Knowledge of standard plumbing methods and techniques.
3. Ability to join and seal elbows, faucets, shower drains, plastic, metal, and title pipes.

6. Knowledge of operating and maintaining hand and power tools.
