You will serve as a PROJECT MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST (ZM) in the Nuclear Productions Department (Code 300N), of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will review, approve and direct work operations in the execution of a project within an assigned zone of work. You will plan overall work assignments by determining total resource requirements and allocation based on schedules and work sequences, which often change significantly. You will work within the zone involving a variety of different trades and technical processes that require comprehensive knowledge of ship repair/overhaul processes. You will monitor, analyze and take necessary actions to achieve cost, quality, and schedule commitments. You will coordinate with inside shops, ship’s force and various shipyard departments for scheduling and completion of work to support project key events, such as systems testing. You will attend meetings concerning work status and provides updates as required to maintain an accurate project schedule.

  • This position requires that the selectee be willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires that the selectee be willing and able to work a Shift Work schedule.
  • This position requires that the selectee be willing and able to accept a temporary promotion not to exceed one year.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying a comprehensive range of principles, concepts and practices concerning shipyard work operations, control system requirements, trade and shop practices. Experience directing and managing the accomplishment of all phases of a work package involving direction through trade oversight. Experience utilizing project management, quality control, cost control, schedule control and work flow techniques. Experience implementing knowledge of production trade and technical methods, procedures, materials, and processes associated with the repair and overhaul of complex Naval vessels. Experience managing a project or portion of a project and directing subordinate staff. Experience investigating and analyzing practices and problems to initiate effective improvements and solutions. Experience analyzing, evaluating and adjusting project resources, work operations equipment and facilities against current and future schedule work requirements.
