You will serve as a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC NORTHWEST.
Duties
You will determine tools to use in performing preventive maintenance on systems and equipment.
You will measure and cut material to required lengths and dimensions to perform construction, repair, replacement, or installation assignments.
You will requisition resources needed to perform maintenance mechanical work on wastewater systems, utility piping systems, or boiler plant systems.
You will operate hand and power pipe threaders, cutters, grinders, flaring, and brazing equipment to complete pipefitting jobs.
You will use formulas or trade mathematics and theories to calculate needed materials and solve problems.
You will operate precision carpentry and woodworking equipment to produce finished products with precise fits, accurate dimensions, and acceptable
appearance.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- You will require to pass a Pulmonary Function Test.
- You will be required to wear a respirator and be respirator qualified.
- You be required to obtain and maintain licenses pertaining to material handling equipment, such as forklifts.
Qualifications
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Operating general and precision carpentry/woodworking equipment; 2) Assisting in pipefitting, performing preventative maintenance, and/or assisting other craft personnel; 3) Operating, adjusting, and maintaining a wide variety of hand power tools and equipment and adhering to safety procedures; 4) Installing, modifying, and repairing hydronics low pressure systems and well water systems; 5) Applying skills in using tools of the plumbing and woodworking trade; and 6) Determining grade, size, and type of lumber/wood substitute materials. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
