This position is in the Education and Community Involvement Branch (ECIB) with the Division of Genomics and Society (DGS) of the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI). The ECIB is responsible for advising the institute director and senior staff on a broad range of issues regarding public education and community involvement matters, developing and implementing public education programs, evaluating public education activities, and coordinating public education initiatives.

Duties

Serves as a spokesperson to local and national audiences. Advances knowledge of genomic and genetic concepts and research programs. Participates in nation-wide genomic science public education and community engagement programs. Engages with diverse communities throughout the nation in the work of the institute. Provides guidance and experience to students and teachers about genetic and genomic research to increase public understanding. Develops programs for students to learn more about careers in biomedical research at all levels.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications

To determine your qualifications at the GS-13 level, you may qualify if you meet the following qualification requirement: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Creating instructional (genetic) educational materials(i.e., Fact Sheets, Web-based Resources, Brochures, etc.); Analyzing statistics and data covering program activities to identify trends, program accomplishments, or potential problem areas; Participating in national and regional workshops to advance health education programs; and Creating programs that will aid student and/or health science professionals in pursuing genomic education training. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
